so it begins.

it looks as if i have finally succumbed, once again, to the online log. suffice to say this isn't my first web-journaly-type-of-thing, but god, it's been a while. guess this truly makes me asian, although this isn't a xanga. welcome to the new year... a new year for new adventures, as i mentioned to someone recently. all-in-all, my "new life" so-to-speak, has been kicked off to a fairly good start it seems, as i am no longer confined to the petty demands of an undergraduate university education, nor the confining prison, frivolous concerns, and counterfeit sympathies of the on-campus housing organization with which i was employed prior to the past summer. the freedom, for now, is a good feeling, and i have milked every ounce of it so far, becoming utterly nocturnal. i have searched out cool hidden dives, gone bowling, gone ice skating, watched movies, gone clubbing, and as necessary accompaniment to all aforesaid, gone drinking. i am amazed at how many bartenders do not know what is and/or cannot make a good rob roy. a manhattan with scotch, people... easy on the sweet vermouth, serve it to me up with a cherry. geez... is that so hard? tonight looks like it might be the end to my don't-go-to-sleep-before-330am-streak, although i have kept it up for the past two weeks. granted, i'll still probbaly wake up at one and watch people's court in bed, only to feel totally shitty about having wasted half the day, but at least i'm on a 24 hour clock. i have a feeling i'll spontaneously erupt with a cold, or a fever, or the flu because my body is hating me for staying up so late, but i figure the scotch'll get rid of all the germs. note-to-self, have a glass or orange juice... sans the screw.

the rain hasn't stopped falling. nor has it exactly deterred me from staying in at night, though i don't feel that bad when i've slept through most of the cold morning wetness. street intersections are flooded, the back alley behind my house has turned into a trail of mini ponds of muddy slop, and i have chosen not to drive through it and the falling water to buy groceries and do laundry. mudslides have consumed houses, cars, and roads and while we momentarily pause to oh-my-god at news footage and live reports, we just as quickly continuing doing what we were doing, forgetting that just about two weeks ago, the southeast asian earthquake and ensuing tsunami catastrophe wiped complete villages and islands off the map, leaving around 140k dead in its wake... the amount of fatalities and the level of water which has showered onto los angeles in the past few days, causing many to openly complain about how wet and gross and awful it is, pales greatly in comparison to the amount of water carried by a 20ft wave. just as the news reporter commented in the film hotel rwanda, people will just say "that's horrible" and continue eating their dinners.

life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.

i must commend you on your blogger. since anonymous postings are forbidden, you force everyone who wishes to make a comment on your life to spend three agonizing minutes trying to figure out where to stake their claim on the information superhighway (a.k.a. 'the address'), what to name this newfound territory of bloggerland, and most importantly, how to make it 'pretty.' sorry, i DO know how you hate that word, especially when followed by 'flowers.' i believe i am still traumatized from being forced to participate in this bloggering, because i cannot seem to remember what i wanted to write in the first place. and for that, i hope that scotch possesses no healing powers whatsoever, and you are visited by a pestering, lingering, albeit miniscule cold bug of some kind. i make no sense; blasted kerosene heaters! who asked them to oven roast the left side of my body? and oddly enough, a cell phone keeps going off with 'phantom of the opera.' wow, i need a stoli tonic.
