lazy tuesday.

in bangkok's ministry of health, i take a seat in the lobby of one of the huge campus' many buildings. in the midday heat the spacious lobby is cool, but humid, when the breeze dies down from time to time. the hum of passing cars and the buzz of motorcycles trickle in from the open doors, while a few birds chirp overhead, perched in the lights, having found their way in but not yet their way out, perplexed by the concept of glass, i'm sure. the few people in the lobby don't seem the slightest bit bothered by the continuous chirping, going about reading their papers, and a spattering of old bird droppings on the floor suggest the little visitors find their way into the building quite often. outside, among the trees, groundskeepers are back from their noonday naps in the shade, pruning and cutting the numerous trees.

a small aquarium, or more precisely, a tiled pond, much like a small swimming pool, hosts a number of lazy fish - five bottom feeders, seven black bass, and one albino. the strong breeze sends ripples across the surface of the water, blurring my view of the fish. under the canopy of the carport, men with dollies move large boxes from a green truck into the back of a nearby van, and while orders are yelled here and there, i can only hear faint murmurs from my seat in the dated, blue-leather couch of yesteryear. my only question is whether progress in the ministry itself moved as leisurely as life in the lobby on this lazy tuesday afternoon.

nothing is so aggravating than calmness.
