at two in the afternoon, it already feels like five. in what seems like a rare occurrence, the sun has failed to show itself today, and the missing sunbeams made sleeping in easier to do this morning. the sky is white - san francisco white, and at a cool 63 degrees, i feel at home. the chill slow tunes streaming from my speakers bring me back to my pre-job summer, where i wasted away the days sitting at my desk, looking for work, thinking about school applications, and throwing away hours of my time on facebook. outside my window, the pine trees in the near distance wave gently with the breeze, and despite the occasional car, which still rips by on the street below, and a spattering of bird chirps, the atmosphere is quiet, lackadaisical, and glum.
at half-past-two in the afternoon, it already feels like six, and the dim light forces me to switch on my floor lamp. class hasn't even begun yet, and i question how productive i'll be today. most of my reading is complete, some research addressed, and while mini-assignments here and there remind me i'm not completely free of work, this melancholy monday afternoon persuades me to sleep without dreaming, talk without speaking, and scream without raising my voice. this is not another manic monday... but a molasses-thick none-day.
life is simply a mauvais quart d'heure made up of exquisite moments.
