continued from the previous scrawl.
i am abruptly jolted out of sleep. the night is still dark out, and it had all been a strange dream. i put on some clothes and decide to go to the kitchen for a drink. passing by my former housemate's room, i notice his computer desk had returned, along with a few small boxes strewn beneath. forgoing my original expedition to the kitchen, i go to the living room to see what's going on and discover more shelves lining the wall - these no longer wood but rather veneered pressboard, containing a collection of cd jewel cases. upon closer inspection i discover they are mine.
the front door opens and my former housemate enters, followed by members of his family and people i do not know. there's a problem, he says and mentions something about a payment complication i don't fully comprehend. as people are moving his things back into the apartment, his mother hands me an envelope full of cash for some bill matters and a congratulations on graduate school. finding the whole deal odd becasue i didn't even know them well, i thank her anyway and head back to my room to put the envelope away. passing through the kitchen, i walk in on a small group of three unfamiliar people singing around a lit range on the stove. i leave them be without interrupting and go to my father, who is also somehow present. i tell him about the dream i just had to which he replies na jiu ke neng, which translates from chinese-mandarin to "then probaly so," as if to say that since i dreamt it, it happened. i tell him about how i found a pile of shoes on the table and ask him to tell me what is really going on, something i had been trying to figure out from the beginning. just as he starts to explain why everyone is there, my cell phone rings and i wake up.
illusion is the first of all pleasures.
