lazy summer.

it's been much too long since i've written something on this, and within the past two-and-a-half months or so, i had suffered through a terrible academic quarter, and finally felt the relief of summer. i hammered out a new term project and presentation overnight, furiously read and graded student papers, proctored and graded final exams, and moved on to my own work, plowing through a 5k-word term paper in three days. despite the perfectly fine outcome, it was far from a happy process and led me wondering just how much i would actually be able to take. even though i was self-assured that i would never put myself through such a taxing academic line-up again, i have heard and forgotten those assurances in the past. with the shift into summer, i have forgotten more and more of those assurances, wallowing in a lackadaisical life of ennui. the university pays me with money instead of guidance, and any information on how to navigate the path towards my degree, shortcuts, and recommendations are effectively hidden. i suppose i should enjoy this slothy life in a socal paradise while i have it, as future summers will consist of comprehensive exams, teaching, and research. don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone?

nothing is so aggravating as calmness.
