remember the war?

it seems another rainy day naturally warrants another day of writing, and as i woke up early enough to catch the midday news, specifically to hear the weather repot on the new storm that finally hot los angeles after a week of what seemed like preposterous prophecizing by weathermen, i was intrigued by the order of top-story segments the news chose to report on for the day. at the moment enourmous court cases have been dominating center stage - the blake murder trial, the haidl gang-rape trial, the michael jackson kiddie molestation trial, the similar catholic priest kiddie molestation trial, and the teenager-killed-grandparents-and-burned-their-house-down-because-of-zoloft trial. god bless the u s.

from an outsider perspective, america looks like nothing more than a country full of malicious individuals. look beyond the defense and maliciousness appears to spread itself into popular demand, with the media obviously capitalizing on the opportunity for ratings by trying to obtain details of the cases by seeking exclusive interviews with significant associated people. a little further into the news program, after some reports here and there about a few water-laden hills somewhere around town, another small news report slips its way into the bunch - an attack on u s troops in some iraqi town by resilliance-group mortars. it is so brief that i dont catch much about the story except that two civillians were killed i think. it then occured to me that yes, america is still in a war, and despite the fact that news reports on the mideast conflict have been pushed to the sidelines, garnering not much attention until a record number of casualties for a day has been achieved, the war is still very real and very much alive. the realization hit me. while i go on and on about living in dreamland, enjoying my nights out, and relishing life.. people my age, from my country, my state, my city, and who knows, maybe even my neighborhood, are halfway across the world getting fired upon, dying. although i can't say i promote warfare, and i can't say i support this country's intentions for combat and takeover, it is still awful to feel that by living in america, by being an american, and by enjoying all it has to offer, i am somehow a part of what my country does elsewhere, sometimes for bad or for worse.

democracy means simply the bludgeoning of the people by the people for the people.
